Wynton Kelly’s Liner Notes: Personal Stories, Conversations and Analysis
I’ve been a musician for as long as I can remember. When asked as a child if I wanted to become a musician, I simply said, “What do you mean? I already am one.”
Named after pianist Wynton Kelly and trumpeter/composer Wynton Marsalis—who’s also been a lifelong mentor—music has always been at the heart of my life. I grew up surrounded by some of the greats in jazz, an experience I feel incredibly fortunate to have had. Their presence and generosity deeply influenced my musical path.
I started as a pianist, then discovered a love for writing and arranging, which led me to study composition at the Boston Conservatory (B.M.) and the Royal College of Music (M.M.).
Here on Substack, I’ll reflect on the people and music that shaped me—and share the insights and stories that have come from a lifetime around great artists, connections I continue to learn from and build on today.
